Malachite forms over immense geological periods within the oxidized zones of copper-rich deposits. As groundwater moves through copper-bearing rock, chemical reactions gradually create secondary copper minerals, including the vivid green mineral known as Malachite.

Depending on the conditions in which it develops, Malachite can form as layered masses, rounded growths, fibrous structures, or beautifully textured crystal aggregates. These natural variations give each specimen its own completely individual appearance.

What is Malachite?

Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral renowned for its extraordinary green colour. Its shades can range from bright grass and emerald green through to deep forest and almost black-green tones.

While polished Malachite is famous for its flowing bands and circular patterns, natural crystal specimens reveal a different side of the mineral. Their textured surfaces and organic growth structures provide a fascinating view of Malachite closer to the form in which it developed naturally within the Earth.
